It belongs to a group of fatty acid amides known as N-acylethanolamines and plays a role in regulating skin comfort and irritation responses. In skincare, PEA works at a deeper level by supporting the skin’s endocannabinoid system — to calm irritation, minimize redness, and re-harmonize. The skin’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological signaling network present in the skin that helps regulate balance, comfort, and protective responses. It is part of the body’s larger endocannabinoid system, which helps maintain homeostasis (internal balance). In the skin, this system plays an important role in controlling inflammation, itching, oil production, and barrier function. PEA is valued for its soothing and skin-calming properties, making it especially useful for sensitive or irritated skin.
